Local 542 has represented the interests of working men and women of Eastern Pennsylvania and Delaware since 1935. Local 542 is a blend of heavy equipment operators in the building and construction industry, along with our C & D-Branch Division members who are employed at quarries, landfills, equipment dealers, shipyards, breweries, manufacturing, airports, bridges, and public works.

Operating Engineers Local 542 continues to grow in size and strength through our journey and apprentice training, organizing, and political action.

Our training program for journey and apprentice operators is second to none. Our professional Instructors vast knowledge and experience help Local 542 produce the highest skilled and safest workers in the industry.

Our Organizing Team continues to focus on educating unorganized workers on the benefits of Union membership and pursue Collective Bargaining Agreements with non- signatory employers through aggressive organizing campaigns, which will ultimately increase the Unions market share. That’s where Local 542 gains a real advantage at the bargaining table.

Local 542 is very politically active and respected in Harrisburg, PA, Dover, DE, and Washington D.C.
