IUOE Local 542 is experienced in political election campaigns. We support elected officials who back and support unions so we can get legislation passed that helps our Union’s members. We also support candidates and elected officials who will veto or vote against legislation that hurts our members. We want to elect officials who give our union a “seat at the table” when it comes to ordinances and laws that affect us.
Once a political campaign is over, the work of governing begins. For our Union, this means engaging in lobbying campaigns impacting our members.
While legislative campaigns often mirror a campaign for political office, there are key differences, including duration of the campaign and the ebb and flow of policy in the legislative arena, that require adjustment of campaign tactics to a different environment and timeline.
Lobbying is Local 542’s effort to persuade an elected official to accept your Union’s point of view and position on important issues by sharing information.
Policy makers respond to the concerns of their constituents, so presenting your Union’s concerns to your legislator is an important part of the process that produces public policies that impact the jobs and quality of life of Local 542 members and their families.
